Captain America is an Avenger

When Marvel revealed the new “The Heroic Age” banner in an image featuring a wide variety of characters, many assumed that this was the new iteration of The Avengers revealed for the first time. Whether or not that is true is still unclear, but one of the characters was confirmed by Marvel (via Newsarama) today: Captain America. Much to my delight, it is even Bucky Barnes, not Steve Rogers, assuring us that Bucky will have a place going forward in the Marvel Universe.

Not only that, but according to the source article, this image also reveals the series artist: John Romita, Jr. While having one of the most expansive careers of any Marvel artist, incredibly enough he has never illustrated an Avengers comic. Given that this series is likely to find their adventures becoming more epic in nature (if early buzz is any indicator), Romita, Jr. seems to be a perfect fit for the title.

We’ll find out for sure when this title launches after Siege in May of this year.
