Captain Human the Robot is Cool, But Also Rude

Illustrated by Jin Chan Yum Wai, colored by Eliaz Constantino and written by Ryan Lindsay, an 8-page short has appeared on Gumroad entitled “Captain Human the Robot” in two variations, one for kids and one for adults. Starring the eponymous hero on a journey throughout an unfamiliar land, the book features colorful and boisterous illustrations by it’s rather competent creative team with Chan Yum Wai and Constantino, similar to what you might find next to Adventure Time. It’s certainly a nice thing to look at from a distance.

But then Lindsay, who Multiversity readers may remember from his work on “Fatherhood” or the Daredevil Seqart book, wrote over the illustrations with two versions: one that has a potty mouth, and one for people who still refer to the toilet as potty. The result is similar to what I imagine was the same inspirado that created “I’m the Juggernaut, Bitch”.

It’s certainly an interesting exploration of how stories can be wildly different with just the tiniest adjustment, which I wager is partially the point.

Here’s the description of the regular version, via Lindsay and Gumroad:

Captain Human the Robot is a wacky ride along with our eponymous hero as he sets forth on an adventure to find a pizza burrito stand. Along the way, he meets a whale, a pirate, and he must fight to stay on his famished path.

This 8 page book is all ages friendly, and it’s kooky enough to make the whole family laugh. The art is by Jin Chan Yum Wai, with colours from Eliaz Constantino. I wrote the dialogue and the story was constructed by Jin and myself through a good chat. The art came in first and then I dropped the words on it – Marvel method, if you dig.

My hope is that this book makes you laugh, and maybe we’ll have more in the future. But for now, feel free to really enjoy this book for free. It’s here to be sampled and enjoyed. If you want to kick in any cash, go for it, but there is no need at all to feel obligated to do so.

If you dig this book please feel free to tweet/facebook/share/chat the holy cats out of it.

And the “After Hours” edition has this slight variation:

Captain Human the Robot is a zany ride along with our eponymous hero as he sets forth on an adventure to follow a treasure map that leads him atop a sperm whale, into the territory of an ornery pirate, and eventually into an existential discovery that will change your life.

Both versions are available now on Gumroad for pay-what-you-want options.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
