Wow, it seems like it was only two days ago that I was telling you that Kelly Sue DeConnick will be departing “Captain Marvel”, a series she helped revolutionise, at the end of “Secret Wars”. Well, as part of Marvel’s bid to spoil the status quo after the event before the even is even halfway done, FastCompany has reported that “Captain Marvel” will be getting an all new, all different creative team when it returns after “Secret Wars”.

Nixing my bet that Kelly Thompson will be taking over as series writer, FastCompany reports that Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butter will be writing the new series. They will be joined by a personal favourite artist of mine, Kris Anka, to take Carol Danvers back into space. Edtior Sana Amanat describes the book as juggling Carol’s roles as a soldier and commander as well as a diplomat as her focus will continue to be in space, but more connected to Earth. She’s being described as Earth’s new first line of defense against extra-terrestrial threats.

FastCompant also shared Kris Anka’s new redesign of the Captain Marvel costume, originally designed by Jamie McKelvie. Anka’s new design is a little more streamlined than what we’ve seen in that past in order to make the costume a little more tactical and representative of Carol’s Air Force origins. While I’m not a big fan of the shoes, I’m liking the rest of it.

Check it out below:

So, what do you think? Are you excited for this all new, all different “Captain Marvel” series? I have to say, I’m already so invested in this character because of what Kelly Sue DeConnick and all the artists she worked with did with her, that I was going to be reading this series no matter what.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
