Marvel Comics have announced that “Hulk” will be relaunched by the creative team of writer Donny Cates, artist Ryan Ottley, and colorist Frank Martin this winter.
“Hulk” will explore the “the very core of Hulk’s rage,” and chronicle the events that follow after Bruce Banner discovers a “radical way” to keep control of the Green Goliath. The announcement teases that it could be the end of the Hulk altogether, but also that Bruce’s new method of keeping the Hulk subdued could create “something new” that will have “massive consequences.”
In a statement, Cates said “Marvel just gave me the keys to the strongest one there is,” continuing “haha… oh boy. You guys are just not ready for this. You’re about to find out what happens when Ryan Ottley and I get angry… and guess what? Well… pretty sure you’re gonna like us a lot when we’re angry.”
Hulk’s most recent solo series, “Immortal Hulk” by writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennett, has received critical acclaim throughout its run, which started in 2018, and is due to conclude with “Immortal Hulk” #50 in September. Coincidentally, Ewing was just announced as co-writer on the “Venom” relaunch, succeeding Cates and Stegman’s run on the title.
The incoming creative team’s first published “Hulk” story will be released this Free Comic Book Day on August 14 as part of “Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/Hulk” #1, with the series set to launch fully in November. You can check out a preview page from “Hulk” #1 here.
