When DC released the product information for its first run of New 52 hardcover collections it was revealed that DC co-publisher Dan Didio and legendary artist Jerry Ordway would be working on a short three issue arc for the company’s new anthology title, DC Universe Presents following the initial Deadman arc by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang. What was unclear until now was the property this new dynamic duo would be tackling. As it turns out, they will be updating and modernizing the classic Jack Kirby property The Challengers of the Unknown. After being major players in the DCU in the 70s and being later redefined by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale in one of their earliest partnerships, not much has been done with the property in quite a while.

It’s also worth noting that this will be the second Jack Kirby property that Didio will be writing in the DCnU, following his and Keith Giffen’s update of Kirby classic OMAC. With Darkseid and the New Gods mythology also having its own comeback in Justice League, it’s clear that DC will not be letting the legacy of The King go untapped moving forward.

Stay tuned for this sucker to drop in February in DCU Presents #6.
