Channing Tatum is Set to Be Your New Gambit

Sorry, Taylor Kitsch fans: there’s a new cajun in town.

In an interview for X-Men: Days of Future Past, producer Lauren Shuler Donner commented on what other X-Men and related characters they want to bring to film, including Deadpool and X-Force. When asked in a not-so-subtle way about the previously discussed Gambit discussions, though, Donner replied, “It is Channing. I’ll develop it with him.”

It’s not exactly confirmation that Tatum has agreed to play Gambit, which the Total Film headline purports, nor is it necessarily confirmation as to whether Gambit will get his own previously reported film or appear in someone else’s movie again. However, given that Tatum has stated that he wants to play the role and that Donner wants a solo Gambit movie, you can probably assume that it’s otherwise a done deal (my persnickety attention to words aside).

Either way, Tatum as Gambit isn’t a bad casting choice, and I actually have hopes for this one. It’ll at least give us something new to look forward to as we patiently wait for Magic Mike XXL.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
