Frank Quitely is an absolute master of the artform; there’s no denying that. With an incredible sense of composition, Quitely brings a very visceral and real look at iconic figures in his art with a level of detail that often staggers the mind.
Such is the case with this latest piece, pulled from this month’s issue of Playboy, which features an article and interview with Grant Morrison. Featuring both characters Morrison has worked with in the palm of his hand (from characters he created like Zenith, King Mob and Ragged Robin to characters he did famous work with like Xorn, Superman and Animal Man), Quitely has done it again in terms of delivering a striking character portrait that captures the whims and imaginations of the person he’s illustrating. (And if you’re unsure what we’re referencing, you might want to check out his word-beard Alan Moore.)
UPDATE: You can actually just read the entire article right here entitled “the Super Psyche”, in which Morrison discusses his thoughts on Superman and Batman (who is “very, very gay”) as well as “the Invisibles”, King Mob and Lord Fanny, and the Supercontext. And yes, there is what would appear to be confirmation that Morrison is working on a standalone graphic novel for DC starring Wonder Woman.
Original text: Comics Alliance has a rundown of the articles contents as well, which includes the mention of an upcoming “Wonder Woman” graphic novel (assumedly from the material mentioned last year). You can find the article in the May 2012 issue of Playboy, on sale now.
