We’re sure you know Jamie McKelive, artist extraordinaire of books like “Phonogram”, “Suburban Glamour” and the upcoming “X-Men: Season One” graphic novel. However, what you may not know is that as well as comics and comics about music, McKelvie did some work last year for the band Art Brut’s album, Brilliant! Tragic! in the form of both cover and interior artwork

Of course, as it turns out the boys behind Art Brut are comic fans themselves, and lead singer Eddie Argos (who himself as a side-project entitled Spoiler Alert, who play songs about comics) put together an anthology featuring stories by artists you know and love like Bryan Lee O’Malley, Hope Larson and Jeff Lemire, with each story focusing on one of the songs on the album. Today, posted online at his tumblr account, Jamie McKelvie shared his particular story focusing on the album’s eighth track (which you can listen to right here), which stars an Argos-lookalike solving a murder mystery and is quite the enjoyable read.

It’s going to be a while until we see the next “Phonogram” book, so whet your appetite with a music-inspired comic “I Am The Psychic” from the band’s comic after the cut, and if you like what you see be sure to pick up a copy at a show or order online.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
