Chip Zdarsky (“Sex Criminals” “Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man) has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel according to Newsarama, though the details of his contract have not been specified.
In traditional Chip Zdarsky fashion, the writer/artist said “I’m thrilled to be with Marvel. This deal means I get to do whatever I want with whatever characters I want and nobody can stop me, which is great.” He even pokes fun at Marvel’s constant renumbering saying “I feel reinvigorated, like someone slapped a new #1 on me and, honestly? I couldn’t be happier.”
Zdarsky first started working at Marvel with “Avengers & X-Men: AXIS” in 2014 and has since worked on other properties for the publisher such as “Howard the Duck,” “Marvel: 2-in-One,” and “Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man.”
Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski asks “What more can be said about Chip Zdarsky that he hasn’t already said about himself?” He then adds “But seriously, in the time he’s been at Marvel, Chip’s shown us all the most amazing range of skills as a writer” and “We’re proud to have him as part of the Marvel family and to let him do whatever he wants with whatever characters he wants. Maybe.”
Along with this announcement, Marvel said Zdarsky will be writing “Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual” #1 with artist Mike Allred, and “Marvel 2-In-One Annual” #1 with artist Declan Shalvey.
Keep your eyes peeled for those Annuals and more exciting work from Zdarsky in the near future.
