Chris Weston Has Finished The Twelve

J. Michael Straczynski had posted on Twitter back in July that he had finished scripting the Twelve entirely. We were excited, but it’s been a while and we miss it.

Now, in a twitter response to Rich Johnson, Chris Weston reported that he had finished drawing the title (in what is ostensibly a playful homage to the history of popular unfinished comics), only to have Straczysnki also confirm that the book was over and done with. Supposedly Marvel has plans to solicit the book next year, with the general rumor being for February.

The Twelve, which hit seven issues before Straczysnki reportedly got too busy with his work on the Hollywood film The Changeling, had five issues to go before it mysteriously disappeared much to fan chagrin. The book, which had been referred to as perhaps the modern Marvel response to Watchmen, followed the adventures of super heroes frozen like Captain America during World War II who were only recently revived, to much less fanfare than Captain America was. The initial release of the book had gone through several printings (to the point that I actually never got to find a first printing copy of the book), and its popularity left many fans disappointed when the book mysteriously disappeared.

Here’s to crossing our fingers that nothing happens.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
