Veteran comics writer Christopher Priest is teaming up with Heavy Metal for a brand new standalone science fiction series. Via The Hollywood Reporter, “Entropy” will mark the first collaboration between Priest and the iconic publisher.

“Entropy” will follow Henry Hanks, a likeable everyman who, per the publisher’s description, will be “responsible for destroying the world,” under the influence of Kako, an unstoppable force that exists throughout the multiverse that Hanks vows to destroy. No artist has yet been announced for the series.

“Christopher is one of the seminal and groundbreaking writers in American comic books,” Heavy Metal Executive Editor Joseph Illidge said of Priest. “From his impact on global culture through his brilliant creations for the ‘Black Panther’ mythos to his socio-political approach to ‘Justice League,’ he’s brought his A-game to the most prevalent genres in entertainment. We’re proud to have Christopher with us at Heavy Metal, and the world needs to buckle up for the cosmic mystery, adventure, and intrigue he’s about to bring to our science fiction multiverse.”

Likewise, Priest expressed excitement about collaborating with the storied publication. “Joining the same creative environment as Moebius, Corben, Wrightson, Eastman, Suydam, Goodwin, Steranko, and so many others feels a lot like being handed the keys to dad’s shiny new Bugatti,” Priest said. “Exciting, nerve-wracking. Bye-bye driver’s license.”

A writer with a long list of credits, Priest has written and edited numerous comics for mainstream publishers over his nearly 40 year career. In addition to his legendary run on “Black Panther,” Priest is known for co-creating Valiant Entertainment’s “Quantum & Woody,” and for his 50 issue run on DC Comics’ “Deathstroke,” which wrapped at the end of last year.

One of the longest-running science fiction and fantasy anthologies in publication, Heavy Metal celebrated its landmark 300th issue this month. The series also recently returned to a monthly release schedule for the first time in 35 years.

“Entropy” is set to hit shelves sometime in early 2021.
