With the launch of their new show tomorrow on Freeform in the U.S. and on Amazon Prime internationally, Marvel is launching a new “Cloak and Dagger” digital, six-issue, limited series from writer Dennis Hopeless (“Avengers Arena,” “Spider-Woman”) and artist David Messina (“Wonder Woman”). Surprisingly, the first full issue of the series is out already today on the Marvel app, Kindle, and ComiXology (with the solicits for the other five issues appearing there too).

The series follows Tyrone (Cloak) and Tandy (Dagger) at a point in their relationship where they’ve been a part for awhile. In an interview with Marvel.com, Hopeless said,

The current state of Cloak and Dagger’s relationship is one of the main driving forces behind this story. When we open, they’re further apart than ever, and the new status quo is still uncomfortable for everyone. Then old memories crop up, like old memories always do, and they’re yanked back together. It’s a lot of fun because we get to dive into their long history together. We spend some time with them in the early days when their powers and partnership were both still new and terrifying.

Cloak and Dagger were created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan and first appeared in “Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man” #64 in 1976. The duo went on to star in their own limited series in 1983, written by Manto with art by Rick Leonardi, before getting an ongoing bimonthly title in 1985 from the same creators. The pair haven’t had an ongoing since the ’80s, but have starred in many Marvel events through the ’00s like ‘Civil War’ and ‘Dark Reign.’ The team featured in Dan Slott’s “Amazing Spider-Man” run, participating in events like ‘Spider-Island.’

Cloak and Dagger premieres on television tomorrow, June 7th. “Cloak and Dagger” #1 is out today, June 6th, on digital (for $2.99 instead of $3.99 like most full-length comics), with #2 arriving July 4th, 2018. You can check out the cover from Mahmud Asrar and some preview pages for the first issue below.
