Announced on CBR, Marvel will be releasing a Victor Von Doom mini-series with the creative team of Becky Cloonan and Nick Spencer in november. The story will focus on teen Doom traveling to Hell in an attempt to free his mother after one of his early experiments in science and magic banishes her there forever.
The idea apparently came when Becky Cloonan joked around with Alejandro Arbona on twitter about a teen Doom book, at which point Arbona e-mailed her to ask if she was serious. Doom will be the next book in the not-really-a-series series of books starring villains, and will focus on Doom less as a powerful and competent figure and more as a character who slips up, screws up, and is a more “honest” portrayal of the events of his past. The Doom of this book won’t be so explicitly evil, but rather a character whose destiny is in his name. The book will feature familiar faces from Doom’s past (including his college “friends”).
For more on Doom’s backstory, check out the Books of Doom by Ed Brubaker and Triumph and Torment by Roger Stern and Mike Mignola, both cited as influential to this mini.
