Via Daily Dead, Dark Horse Comics has announced “Cold Bodies,” a horror graphic novel by writer Magdalene Visaggio, and artist Andrea Mutti. Inspired by 1980s slasher films, it tells the story of “final girl” Denise Stokes, who is trying to move on with her life, decades after seeing her friends slaughtered by a killer known only as “The Winter Man.”

When a horror film franchise called Snow Day reignites public interest in the massacre, and the anniversary of the killings approaches, “Denise finds herself in a dark place, as she begins to see the Winter Man show up again, and the difference between what’s real and what isn’t begins to collapse around her.”

Visaggio is an Eisner and GLAAD Media Award-nominated writer, best known for her work on Black Mask’s “Kim & Kim” and Vault’s “Vagrant Queen,” the latter of which was adapted as a television series by Syfy in 2020. Her most recent work for Dark Horse was 2019’s “Calamity Kate,” an L.A.-set monster hunting epic she co-created with artist Corin Howell.

Italian artist Andrea Mutti has been active in the comics industry since the early ’90s, having worked for everyone from Marvel (“Daken”) and DC (“Batman Eternal”) to 2000 AD. Dark Horse readers will know him from his work on “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: War,” written by John Jackson Miller, and last year’s sci-fi thriller “Starship Down” with writer Justin Giampaoli.

“Cold Bodies” will be released to comic shops on September 8 of this year, and to book stores on September 21.
