Frankenstein #6 vs Watchmen #4

There has been a lot of hullabaloo recently in regards to the whole Before Watchmen thing DC is doing, with fans taking sides both for and against it in a digi-battle of the nerds.

Of course, there is that one burning question: what does this mean for Watchmen‘s “continuity”? Does Watchmen still exist in its own world, or is it somehow connected to the New 52? Is Rorschach going to hang out with Batman? Is Doctor Manhattan going to get moral lessons from Superman? What about the children! Is nothing sacred?!

Ok, fine. No one has really been asking that question. But what if they were? What if Watchmen took place in the New 52? What if…?

In this week’s Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #6, Jeff Lemire and Alberto Ponticelli introduced a new character named Colonel Quantum. The character fought alongside Frankenstein in the Vietnam war, and is described as an alpha-level superman composed of atomic power who was brought in to turn the tide of the war. He also happens to develop an indifference to not just the wars of man, but humanity in general, receding to a small place of his own to be on his own (until the catalyst of this issue).

And wouldn’t you know it, his first appearance in the book looks rather familiar. In fact, his whole story is rather familiar.

Pretty sneaky, guys!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
