That has to be one of the wildest headlines I’ve ever written and will ever write, but it is all true.

Batman Live is coming to your town, with tickets going on sale on Friday. It’s a multimillion dollar stage show featuring Batman, the origin of Robin, and a whole handful of impressive props and villains, starring 45 different performers, a 100 foot stage, and a 130 foot wide video screen, as reported by Robot 6.

The show is going to open with an Arkham jailbreak that involves a 26-foot giant Joker head and the villains Catwoman, the Riddler, Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn. The focus, however, will be about Dick Grayson and how he becomes the Boy Wonder, as well as Batman’s relationship with him. As Geoff Johns notes in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, ““Batman lost his parents, but he can cope with his pain and owns it. Then he sees this boy and it reopens all those wounds. Robin’s journey very much brings up Bruce Wayne’s journey. …the great thing about Batman Live, and showing the origin of Robin and looking at that in a modern way, trying to capture this audience who I don’t think have been exposed to Robin and that relationship with Batman. It’s an emotional one, a very real one and the story is uplifting, it’s tragic, it has everything.”

This is quite possibly one of the most expensive superhero ever, and could possibly beat out Spider-Man’s musical. This wouldn’t be the first time Batman beat out Spider-Man in a different media however, so I suppose that is to be expected.

Batman Live will be touring the UK first starting July 2011, and will be in North America for summer of 2012, so Batfans – get your wallets ready.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
