Announced quietly in the back of “The Black Bettle: Now Way Out” #4, those of you who are following the exploits of Francesco Francavilla’s pulp superhero the Black Beetle will be pleased to know that a sequel/follow-up story is already in the works. Its title? “Necrologue.”

First of all, that’s a great title.
Second of all, eff yes!
Francavilla proved beyond a shadow of a doubt with “Black Beetle” that not only does he have great artist chops with a signature style and hue, but all of his various Pulp Sunday pin-ups aren’t just for show. The man is quite a storyteller. “Black Beetle” featured innovative and engrossing layouts that told an engaging story perfect for the pulp stories of yesteryear, a brilliant homage in an attractive body. While Francavilla’s work is always something to checkout no matter where it happens to pop up, whether it be “Hawkeye” or with Snyder in “Batman”, it is certainly nice to see that Francavilla is more than capable of telling an engrossing creator-owned comic.
I, for one, can not wait for more.
“No Way Out” will be released in one of Dark Horse’s impressive looking hardcovers this August. The Black Beetle will return in “Necrologue” later this year.
