ComiXology Originals have launched a new five-part science fiction series called “.Self,” by the creative team of writer Christopher Sebela, artist Cara McGee, colorist Rebecca Nalty, and letterer Aditya Bidikar.

The series sees Natalie Winters, a woman with a happy marriage, a good job, and a pet-like robot vacuum cleaner, upload her ‘self’ to a burgeoning new tech service call Postscript, which will allow her to live for 48 more hours after she dies, when her ‘self’ is downloaded into a ‘Blank’ body. The intention of the service is to allow individuals to provide closure to their loved ones following their deaths, however, Natalie’s life soon falls into disarray when her Postscript account is hacked and multiple Blanks containing her ‘self’ are set loose.

Sebela stated, “in this new era of crypto and NFTs, I wanted to explore the idea that even we ourselves are capable of being exploitable digital assets,” and that the series also interacts with “the concept that you can see yourself in different bodies that have chosen to follow different paths and dreams you may have let go of over the course of your life.” McGee said, “I feel like it’s so rare to see a woman in her thirties go through this sort of journey of self-discovery, learning new and surprising things about herself while also confronting some of her demons, so I’m thrilled to be a part of this series.”

“.Self” #1 is available now. You can check out a preview of the issue over at Syfy Wire.
