Via The Hollywood Reporter, comiXology Originals have announced “Youth,” a new four-issue series from “Olympia” writer Curt Pires, artist Alex Diotto, and colorist Dee Cunniffe starting on Tuesday, May 12. A teen superhero comic, the book follows Frank and River, “two high school students in the midwest navigating life as a queer couple, only to run away and discover an entirely different world than they could have imagined.”

In a statement, Pires declared, “I wanted to make a teen superhero comic that actually felt authentic to the uncertainty and beautiful confusion that encompasses the coming-of-age experience. There are lots of teen superhero comics, but most of them are written by writers closer to 47 than 17 and feel remarkably out of touch. I wanted to make something that captured the beauty and pain of the youth culture zeitgeist.”

Each issue will be released weekly, and will be available at no extra charge for Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited subscribers. As listed on comiXology, this will mark “Season One” of the series, “with two further projects from Pires also in the works.” The Reporter also revealed the comic is already in development at Amazon Studios as a Prime Video series, with Pires attached to adapt his own script.

Head on over to the Reporter for six-page preview of the first issue.
