Well, we did tell you, didn’t we? In today’s Year of the X-Men Liveblog, the creative powerhouse of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning were confirmed as the new writers of Marvel’s New Mutants. As noted on the liveblog, this will be the first time DnA have worked extensively on a mutant-centric book. Abnett and Lanning are taking the book in a new direction, with Cyclops sending the New Mutants to stem any loose ends that could cause mutantkind massive headaches in the future. Obviously, one of the most massive loose ends is Nate Gray, a.k.a. X-Man, who will be getting a good amount of attention in the first arc along with fan favorite “currently kinda evil” character Blink. Additionally – as with any team book – the relationships between the characters are extremely important, and we will be seeing a “curveball romantic relationship.” Also as we told you earlier, Leandro Fernandez is the new artist, and his first page is so damn good that editor Nick Lowe “soiled himself when he saw [it.] He wears adult diapers now.” Leandro will be the regular artist, but other artists will step in ever other arc or so. Be sure to come back tomorrow around the same time for a similar conference, this time regarding the Uncanny X-Force!
