And I think this is a safe case of we told you so, right?
If you’re a reader of Multiversity on the regular, you’ll remember that we “Amazing Spider-Man” would end at #700 and restart with “Superior Spider-Man” #1. Now we can tell you all the official details, as revealed on USA Today.
The book will feature the rotating artistic team of Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos and Giussepe Camuncoli. The book will have a darker edge to it, and Dan Slott notes that something “drastic” and “big” is going to happen to Spider-Man. The series will also feature alterations to the classic costume that will reflect some new abilities, and the first arc – entitled ‘Hero or Menace’ – will feature Stegman on art for three issues.
Here’s a great quote from USA Today:
Amazing Spider-Man editor Stephen Wacker has been teasing publicly that it might be time for a new Spidey who isn’t Peter Parker, Slott says, but the writer remains cryptic about who exactly will be under the mask.
Our theory has been that Doc Ock will have something to do with the Superior switch, based on a litany of evidence we’ve provided in the past (see above link). Who else thinks that, after what we’ve been right about so far, that it might be safe to say that Doc Ock replaces Spider-Man in some capacity? Whether he kills Peter, or takes him out of commission (like Bane did Batman in ‘Knightfall’), or something much more … sinister.
After all, Slott says things will be darker. What’s darker than Ock taking Peter out?
We’ll find out in January.
