Via Newsarama, Titan Comics has announced a tie-in to Netflix’s live-action anime adaptation Cowboy Bebop. Slated for release this December, “Cowboy Bebop: The Comic Series” will be a four-issue miniseries, with plans for a collected edition in May 2022. Dan Watters (“Home Sick Pilots”) will handle scripting duties, while Lamar Mathurin (“Gumbo”) will draw.
The story will follow the principle characters, a group of bounty hunters (“cowboys”) aboard the spaceship Bebop, as they track down a former gang member, who claims to own a vest, giving them “unlimited luck.” Drawing from the Netflix series, rather than the original anime, the characters in the book resemble their live-action counterparts, including Danielle Pineda’s Faye Valentine and Mustafa Shakir’s Jet Black, with Valentine and John Cho’s Spike Spiegel gracing the cover of the first issue.
In addition to the comic series, Titan announced a prose prequel novel titled Cowboy Bebop: A Syndicate Story: Red Planet Requiem (due out November 23), and Cowboy Bebop: Making the Netflix Series, a coffee table art book. The first season of the new show itself will be released on November 19.
This will be Cowboy Bebop‘s first foray into western comics. Created by Shinichirō Watanabe in 1998, the legendary series has been adapted into manga on two separate occasions, the first being “Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star,” and the second being a three-volume series simply titled “Cowboy Bebop.” Both series were translated into English, but are no longer in print.
