Crafty Community Fan Demos “Journey To The Center Of Hawkthorne”

Say what you like about the quality of the show or it’s humor, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a show with as dedicated and avid a fanbase as that of NBC’s Community.

Case in point: remember the first episode in this year’s three-part Community finale, “Digital Estate Planning”? The intrepid heroes of the Greendale 7 found themselves in an old-school landscape of racism and hidden throwback references for the duration of the 20 minute episode as they raced against Gus Fring to the center of Hawkthorne. (Folks who don’t watch the show, it was an all 8-bit episode that went a little something like this.) And now? Now you can play that game.

Kind of, anyway. A reddit user by the name of Derferman (as seen on The Verge) has begun crafting a demo of the side-scroller using the love engine which you can download absolutely for free. It’s short and will take you less than a minute to “beat,” but it’s an impressive little example of the passion of Community fans. (I was debating throwing a meta joke in here, but, well, I’m sure you guys were thinking it anyway.)

At any rate, if you’ve got a minute to kill and like midi music, it’s pretty fun doing Troy Barnes’ flip across three

stages.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
