Dark Horse Comics has announced that supernatural detective Cal McDonald will return this December in “Criminal Macabre: The Big Bleed Out.” The four issue mini-series is written by original creator Steve Niles (“30 Days of Night”), with newcomer Gyula Németh on art. Blambot’s Nate Piekos will letter the new series.
“The Big Bleed Out” opens with McDonald wandering the streets as a disheveled vagrant, however he is soon pulled from this lavish retirement to once more take up his monster-killing ways. But what is it about a beautiful woman (who happens to be a vampire) that has Cal so shaken and afraid to return to the fray?
“I’ve been writing Cal McDonald since I was in my 20’s and to this day he is the most fun to write,” says Niles of returning to one of his signature characters. “I couldn’t be happier to see him come back with Gyula Nemeth doing the art. I think fans of Cal will be pleasantly surprised and hopefully a little horrified.”
Cal McDonald debuted in 1990’s “Fly in My Eye: Daughters of Fly In My Eye” from Arcane Comix, written by Niles with art by Jim Whiting. The character has since gone on to feature in several Niles-penned Dark Horse Comics series, drawn by such horror luminaries as Kyle Hotz, Kelley Jones, and Ben Templesmith.
“Criminal Macabre: The Big Bleed Out” #1 is scheduled to arrive in comic stores and on digital platforms December 11, 2019.
