CW’s “The Flash” Lights Some Sparks with Firestorm Casting Announcement

The CW’s upcoming The Flash series already has a heavy number of young attractive people (it’s on The CW, duh) but it looks like things are about to get even hotter with the new Firestorm, Robbie Amell.

In the comics, Firestorm was high school student Ronnie Raymond who was given the power to rearrange matter at a sub-atomic level in a lab accident that merged him with physicist Martin Stein, who proceeded to give the teen advice while living inside his head. After getting offed in the company-wide Red Wedding known as “Identity Crisis”, he was replaced by new-comer Jason Rusch until Ronnie was revived by “Blackest Night” and “Brightest Day”. Despite Wikipedia’s best efforts, I’m not entirely sure what happened there and neither did the writers as their storyline at the time was wiped out to make way for The New 52 and the “Fury of Firestorm” series which saw the two teens sharing one body.

In the upcoming TV series, Raymond will debut in the third episode as fiancé to S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Dr. Caitlin Snow (played by Danielle Panabaker). Something will presumably then explode on him, making him able to fly around and fire nuclear energy.

Robbie Amell’s no stranger to The CW as he’s the star of The Tomorrow People, a remake of the British show of the same name revolving around super-powered teenagers. He’s also no stranger to The CW’s DC shows as his cousin is Arrow star and walking set of abdominal muscles, Stephen Amell. Now I haven’t seen The Tomorrow People so I don’t have many opinions on the actor’s talents (though I do wish we were getting a Jason Rusch Firestorm). That said, it’s up in the air whether or not Robbie will follow in his cousin’s footsteps with gratuitous workout scenes because… uh…

I wouldn’t turn off the TV if he did.

The Flash premieres on The CW this fall, October 8th.
