Marvel Comics have announced “Avengers of the Wastelands,” a five-issue series written by Ed Brisson and illustrated by Jonas Scharf. The latest addition to the dystopian universe of ‘Old Man Logan,’ “Old Man Hawkeye,” and “Old Man Quill,” the series sees Dwight Barrett – the Ant-Man introduced in Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s original run – form a new Avengers, including a new Hulk and Dani Cage (Luke Cage and Jessica Jones’s daughter) as Thor.

In a world where most Super Heroes fell at the hands of the Red Skull over 50 years ago, Dani Cage wields the mighty Mjolnir for the cause of peace. But when the brutal regime of Doctor Doom forces Dwight (AKA the owner of the surviving Ant-Man technology) to Dani and the Hulk in a last ditch effort to survive, the Avengers have the chance to assemble once more!

Marvel also announced “Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle,” another five-issue series scripted by first-time Marvel writer Mat Johnson (“Incognegro”) with art by Mack Chater (“Black Panther and the Crew”). The comic follows Joseph “Robbie” Robertson, editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle newspaper, as he uncovers a lead into Spider-Man and Kingpin’s past. According to the press release, “like any great news story, this series will have revelations that will change the way you view Spider-Man forever as Robbie discovers a secret that will affect anyone who’s ever come into contact with the web slinger!”

The journalist must speak truth to power—whether or not it’s wielded responsibly. Helmed by Peter Parker’s mentor, Robbie Robertson, the Daily Bugle staff is at last chasing stories that matter. And in a city under Mayor Wilson Fisk, keeping the public informed is as essential as it is dangerous. Weaving between events in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and DAREDEVIL, Mat Johnson (Hellblazer Special: Papa Midnite, Incognegro, Loving Day) and Mack Chater (BLACK PANTHER AND THE CREW, Briggs Land) are following a lead into Kingpin and Spider-Man’s past that will change the way you look at the webslinger now, and as his story continues.

The first issues of both “Avengers of the Wastelands” and “Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle” will be released in January.
