‘Daredevil’ Casts Jon Bernthal As The Punisher In Season Two

Well, this isn’t a surprise. Okay, I should say: Marvel confirming that The Punisher will show up in the second season of Daredevil is not a surprise at all. Ol’ Skullvest and Ol’ Hornhead have had a deepseated rivalry in the comics for decades now and bringing in The Punisher to butt heads to Daredevil makes complete sense. Especially if they bring Frank in as a enemy for Daredevil at first before having them team-up against a bigger threat (Bullseye? Elektra?) to cash in on that Batman V. Superman here as well as in Civil War.

What is is a surprise for me, though, is the choice. Reported initially over at CBR, it turns out that Frank Castle will initially be played by The Walking Dead‘s very own Jon Bernthal. As a self proclaimed huge fan of the Punisher (my last name is straight up taken from Frank’s last name), I’m pretty okay with this casting. Sure, he’s no Tom Hardy, who I was really rooting for, but after seeing Beranthal in Fury I have no doubts that he can pull this off.

All I can hope for is that the writing of the show will do the character justice, but given the show’s track record I am very hopeful that this works out. Three false starts is too much for my heart to take; I need a good live action Punisher in my life.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
