“Dark Avengers” to End with Issue #190; Lord Demonpimp is Not Pleased

Today is a sad day, because it brings the official announcement of the end of “Dark Avengers” from Jeff Parker and Neil Edwards. Parker has been on this book since issue #138, and his work has been an underrated run in recent Marvel memory, as he took a hodgepodge of a cast plus Luke Cage and created one of the more entertaining and crazy books at the Big Two. Sure, it helped that he had the prodigious talents of Kev Walker and Declan Shalvey for quite some time, but it was his ideas and his inspired work with characters like Man Thing, Troll/Gunna, Juggernaut, Satana, Hyde and many others that made this book pretty much freaking amazing.

And let’s not forget Lord Demonpimp. Lord knows I never will.

In Marvel Now!, it’s cast got stripped down and the crazy ante got risen even higher, but the book has still maintained its quality and has been a really enjoyable fish out of water/alternate reality story. I’m sad to see it go, and hopefully Marvel unleashes Parker on another book where he has carte blanche to entertain readers with his fantastical ideas and excellent execution with characters. Check out the final solicit below, and make sure to pour one out for your fallen homies this weekend.

As an additional note, this also wraps the ending of the original numbering for Thunderbolts, which is sad in its own right. Granted, it had been renumbered/relaunched before, but it was still a pretty fantastic book with a great legacy continued by Parker.
