Dark Horse Comics have announced “Astro Hustle,” a new mini-series by writer Jai Nitz (“Suicide Squad,” “The Batman Strikes,” “Dream Thief”) and newcomer artist Tom Reilly starting in March. Described as a “sexy space pirate romp” inspired by ’70s disco era science fiction, the comic follows a cosmic criminal, Chen Andalou, who is the black sheep of one of the galaxy’s most prominent families. He wakes up sixty years from being accidentally placed into cryogenic stasis, and finds out his brother is president of the galaxy. Chen however, instead of trying to reform himself, goes back to what he knows best: piracy and causing trouble.

Nitz commented in the press release about where the inspiration for this new project came from, stating “When I was a kid, Star Wars came out and it flipped the entertainment industry upside down. Suddenly, every studio and TV network wanted a sci-fi show. The other biggest culture craze on the planet was disco. So the powers that were put them together and you got this super strange blend of Disco sci-fi.”

Colorist Ursula Decay and letterer Crank! will join Nitz and Reilly as co-creators on the project. Nitz commented on their involvement, stating, “The themes we are touching on, being a black sheep, politics, legacy, expectations of family, are only possible because of Tom’s amazing line art. All of us, me, Tom, Ursula Decay, and Crank! are owners-operators of this project. We all have a stake in the success or failure of the comic and the property.”

“Astro Hustle” will be a four-issue mini-series: issue #1 will be on sale March 6, 2019.
