Remember how Disney bought Lucasfilm for more money than most of us will ever have in our entire lives? Yeah, that was messed up. Well, one of the things that came with that was a question as to what the situation with the licensed Star Wars comics Dark Horse publishes was. Actually, that should be published.
Dark Horse’s August solicitations were revealed today over at CBR and as it turns out both “Star Wars”, “Star Wars: Legacy” and “Star Wars: Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir” (the last holdout Star Wars series at Dark Horse) will be ending that month. Not only that, but the last trades for those series as well as the trade for “Star Wars: Rebel Heist” will all be released in August too. Looks to me like they’re having a clearance of the last of comics they had to publish before… something?
It was also confirmed earlier in the year that Marvel will be gaining the license to publish Star Wars in 2015. If I’ve got my “jumping to obvious conclusions” hat on right, this looks like they’re clearing the way to allow Marvel to start publishing Star Wars comics as early as January next year.
Now, here’s the fun part: this is where we all start speculating on what comics they’ll be publishing and who will be creating them. I feel like putting my money on a comic in which Bendis has Chewbacca go back in time to bring the Episode I versions of Anakin, Padmé and Obi-Wan forward in time just to show them how sucky the prequels were compared to the original trilogy.
Or is that too on the nose?
