Dark Horse Comics have announced that they will be publishing the first volume of “Kings of Nowhere” by cartoonist Soroush Barazesh, commonly known by his username Koteri Ink.

“Kings of Nowhere” follows the life of Bili, the son of a notorious gangster, who has grown accustomed to beatings from local thugs because of his “his quiet and lonesome demeanor.” However, when Bili is subjected to a beating with “a ruthless turn,” Bili is enveloped by a combination of wild rage and trauma, and changes into his chimera ape form.

With his life dramatically altered, Bili finds others like him, “Hamed a baboon and Zatoichi a blind monkey,” and sets out to achieve “cold, unapologetic vengeance against each of those who have taken a piece of him.” While Bili seeks vengeance, he has to come to terms with the hatred he harbors for his father, and learn how to be successful in the “unforgiving slums ruled by crime lords and corruption.”

“Kings of Nowhere” was first released via Barazesh’s successful Kickstarter campaign. In the description on the website, Barazesh details how the world of “Kings of Nowhere” began development in 2011, and that he produced a thesis film based on the idea in 2016, before pursuing the graphic novel full-time in 2017. Chapters of “Kings of Nowhere”‘s second volume are available digitally via Barazesh’s website.

Dark Horse’s edition of “Kings of Nowhere” Volume 1 will be available in comic shops on September 28, and bookshops on October 11.
