The Original Screenplay' #1
Dark Horse Comics have announced “Predator: The Original Screenplay,” a five-part comic book adaptation of James E. Thomas and John C. Thomas’s original draft of the screenplay for Predator; writer Jeremy Barlow, penciller Patrick Blaine and inker Andy Owens are the creative team for the series.
Predator, directed by John McTiernan and still written by the Thomas brothers, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite military team trying to rescue hostages from guerrilla-held territories, only to find themselves being targeted by an alien huntsman. The original script, known as Hunters, focused on a group of alien hunters of different species hunting different targets, focusing on the idea of “what it is to be hunted,” before eventually being reduced to a single alien hunting a group of humans.
As the cover for the first issue shows, the design of the Predator is dramatically different to the one that Stan Winston designed for the film. The setting of Central America remained the same throughout the development process. In an exclusive statement to SYFY Wire, Barlow said “The bones of Predator are there, but the original idea was so different and in some ways, much deeper than what the movie became — and we lean hard into those differences.”
“Predator: The Original Screenplay” #1 will be released on June 10. Dark Horse Comics also recently announced an adaptation of the original Alien screenplay, which starts April 22.
