Dark Horse Comics have announced that they will be publishing “Raptor: A Sokol Graphic Novel” by Dave McKean.

The story will be split between two worlds: one is a “feudal, fantastical landscape” where readers will follow Sokol, who earns his living as a monster hunter. The second will be 19th century Wales, and focus on an author of ghost stories, who is driven into occult circles in the hope of contacting his dead wife once more. At this point, the connection between the two worlds has not been revealed, “but each protagonist enters a liminal space where the lines between truth and imagination blur and vanish.”

Aside from his cover art on Neil Gaiman projects such as “The Sandman” and Coraline, McKean is known for his own comic book projects such as the Harvey Award-winning “Cages,” which was his writing debut, and more recently, “Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash,” both of which were published by Dark Horse.

“Raptor” will be released in two printed editions; a paperback edition and a hardcover deluxe edition with an oversized format and an exclusive signed illustration by McKean. Both editions of “Raptor: A Sokol Graphic Novel” are scheduled for release in comic book shops on July 7, 2021, with a bookshop release on July 20, 2021.
