At The Beat, Dark Horse Comics have announced a new all-ages graphic novel called “Savor,” created by writer Neil Kleid (“Brownsville”), artist John Broglia (“God Complex”), and colorist Frank Reynoso (“Kings and Canvas”).

The story follows warrior chef Savor Batonnet, as she returns home after years away, to discover that her island home and family are under the control of demonic pirate cooks. She will have to defeat five deadly restaurants and assemble the ultimate knife to become a hero and restore order.

In a statement, Kleid detailed how his perspective of legacy in his stories is changing as he is getting older, with it now being “viewed less from the POV of a son… and more through the eyes of a father.” He continued, “This one’s for my daughter, offering her a tale about finding your way, becoming who you’re meant to be, fighting for those important to you, and honoring the stories that have come before.” Broglia feels similarly about the book, saying “as a father of two young girls, I have been longing to work on a project that revolves around a strong, positive, young woman and role model,” and describing the book as “a fun ride, paired with beautiful, heartfelt moments that double as food for the soul.”

“Savor” is scheduled for release on January 6, 2021. You can check out the preview pages for the book here.
