Dark Horse Comics have announced “Steam,” a new all-ages graphic novel written by Drew Ford (“JSA 80-Page Giant”), with art by Duane Leslie (“Judge Dredd”), and colorist Eva de la Cruz (“Fairest”). According to the press release, the fantasy book, due out in late May, will tell the story of Arlo, a young boy living with abusive guardians, who escapes through an intergalactic portal to the steam-powered planet of Pother.

While there, Arlo discovers his long-lost father inadvertently helped a powerful corporation from Earth, who are trying to deplete Pother’s resources. Now Arlo must set things right, and join a small resistance group to both remove this dangerous organization from their world, and protect the planet’s indigenous beings. “Through this epic adventure, Arlo discovers his self-worth and perhaps even his life’s ultimate destiny.”

Writer Drew Ford is better known as the editor and publisher of It’s Alive!, which restores, archives and publishes out-of-print comics, and English translations of foreign books, as well as original projects, and other unique collectibles. The book also marks artist Duane Leslie’s first mainstream American work.

“Steam” will be released in comic shops on May 27, 2020, and bookstores June 9, 2020. The paperback book will be 144 pages long and retail for $14.99, and is available to pre-order now.
