Via Bleeding Cool, Dark Horse Comics have announced a new five-part sci-fi detective series, “The Worst Dudes,” by writer Aubrey Sitterson (“No One Left To Fight”), artist Tony Gregori (“Deuce of Hearts”), colorist Lovern Kindzierski (“Norse Mythology”), and letterer Taylor Esposito (“The Black Ghost”). The print copies of the single issues will feature back-up comics by Rory Blank.
Described as “Lobo meets The Big Lebowski,” the series will follow a trio consisting of bent cop Sam Sugar, drugged-up space trucker and former back-up dancer “Cal” Caligula Monomacho, and teenage demigod Bang Monsoon, as they search the galaxy for missing pop star Zephyr Monsoon — who happens to be Bang’s half-sister and Cal’s ex-wife.
In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Gregori stated that “we started kicking around ideas in early spring 2018 and the intent was to make something for the 15-year-old in both of us that also examined masculinity and the ego.” Sitterson’s statement in the press release promises that the series’ content is “so vile, so raunchy, so utterly odious, that it’ll make your other comics turn yellow,” while Gregori told Bleeding Cool, “I’m beyond thrilled to be working with the legendary Dark Horse Comics on ‘The Worst Dudes,’ and I can’t believe they’re letting me draw giant [censored] pink [censored], and alien landscapes overflowing with [censored]!”
“The Worst Dudes” #1 is scheduled for release in comic shops and on digital platforms on June 2. A preview page not suitable for Diamond’s Previews catalog can be seen here.
