Today Dark Horse announced on Twitter the confirmation of Frank Miller’s 300 prequel, Xerxes, accompanied by a lithograph of the titular character available for purchase. The lithograph is currently dominating Dark Horse’s homepage with the tag “They were 300. He was one.”, though Dark Horse’s own webpage offers little more on the matter. However, the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex has released an article concerning the upcoming comic that includes all sorts of juicy quotes from Miller, including a brief synopsis:

“The time frame begins 10 years before 300 and the story starts with the Battle of Marathon, which was killer to draw, by the way, even if it was a lot of work. The lead character is Themistocles who became warlord of Greece and built their navy. The story is very different than 300 in that it involves Xerxes’ search for godhood. The existence of gods are pre-supposed in this story and the idea is that he well on his way to godhood by the end of the story.”

Also of note is 300 director Zack Snyder and producer Thomas Tull’s readiness to adapt the comic for the big screen. Says Snyder:

“If the book is awesome and compelling, then, yes, we’re interested.”

Whether or not you’re a fan of either Frank Miller or 300, this will certainly be something to keep tabs on. A few hypothetical projects of Miller’s have faded off into the graveyard of unimplemented ideas (Holy Terror, Batman!), but with this one we at least have some finished art. Keep visiting Multiversity for any more news that we learn about concerning the next comic from one of the most amusing creators in the industry.
