Dark Horse Comics Teams With Universal To Adapt Stories To TV

The lines between comic books and television continue to blur as Dark Horse has now signed a first look deal with Universal Cable Productions, CBR reports. This deal allows Universal exclusive access to Dark Horse’s extensive library of creator owned comic books in order to develop them into television adaptations.

This deal has meant that a number of series have already been fasttracked into production, like “Harrow County”, “Umbrella Academy” and Paul Chadwick’s “Concrete”. This deal will also allow Universal the first opportunity to option any new additions to Dark Horse’s library in the future.

This definitely seems like a move designed to strengthen Dark Horse’s focus on its creator owned library and I’m all for it if it means we get an “Umbrella Academy” TV show. But what do you think? Excited? Bored of the trend of comic book TV shows? Sound off in the comments below.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
