Originally, when Aronofsky tried to make the movie the Fountain, the studio wasn’t exactly having it based on the rather high concept implications that making a film like that had. So what did Aronofsky do? He and Kent Williams made a Vertigo graphic novel, and no matter what you thought about the movie, it’s rather undeniable that the comic was pretty damn great. So with Aronofsky currently busy on the Wolverine, what’s happening with one of his other film ideas? Well, he and Pride of Baghdad artist Nico Henrichon are teaming up to bring you Noah (cue excitement here).
The book will be released early next year, and the story appears to be focused on what happens to Noah after the flood, sort of in an apocalyptic fashion. As Aronofsky described to the Guardian via Bleeding Cool, “Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk. It’s there in the Bible — it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor’s guilt going on there. He’s a dark, complicated character.” The few pieces of art we’ve seen so far (up top, and after the cut) are absolutely fantastic as well, so it’s safe to say that while this might not be a movie yet, it certainly looks like it’ll match up to the Fountain’s comic version in quality, if only because Nico Henrichon is a star at art (did we mention Pride of Baghdad yet?).
Check behind the cut for some more art, and we’ll keep you updated on the project as we find out more.
