Well, not to sound braggy, but I certainly called this one, now didn’t I?

Announced over at USA Today with a few extra details popping up at The Source, it looks like the second wave of the DCnU is upon us. However, before we can make way for the new hotness, one must dispose of the old and busted (as Agent J might say). The following titles will be ending at issue #8:

  • Men of War
  • Mister Terrific
  • OMAC (Editor’s note: easily the most disappointing loss of the bunch)
  • Blackhawks
  • Hawk and Dove
  • Static Shock
We know from Berganza’s blog from a few weeks ago that OMAC will be joining the JLI, and Dove at least has a recurring role in Justice League Dark, but it is unknown what will happen to the rest of the characters.

Now on to the new. The following six titles will be replacing the above six:

  • Earth 2, written by James Robinson and illustrated by Nicola Scott, focusing on the JSA battling threats that “set them on a collision course with other worlds”
  • Batman Incorporated, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Chris Burnham, the finale to Morrison’s Batman epic
  • G.I. Combat, written by JT Krul and illustrated by Ariel Olivetti, an update of The War That Time Forgot from the 60s with two backups announced: The Unknown Soldier, written by Palmiotti/Gray and illustrated by Dan Panosian, and The Haunted Tank, written by by John Arcudi and illustrated by Scott Kolins
  • The Ravagers, written by Howard Mackie and illustrated by Ian Churchill, spinning out of Scott Lobdell’s N.O.W.H.E.R.E. ideas in Superboy and Teen Titans and starring a new ragtag group of four teen heroes on the run from the nefarious organization, who are attempting to turn them into super villains
  • Dial H for Hero, written by China Mieville and illustrated Brian Bolland, update of the classic character/book by the same name
  • World’s Finest, witten by Paul Levitz with art by George Perez and Kevin Maguire on alternating arcs, focusing on Earth 2 heroes Huntress and Power Girl trapped on Earth Prime and attempting to get home
The above titles all begin in May. Fans can breath easy now, I suppose, as Watchmen 2 was not part of the announcement, but don’t worry – there’s still an entire year left!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
