Announced today on the Source blog, we get the first look at what is coming from the Bat-books. In a bit of an interesting twist up, Scott Snyder will be moving onto Batman proper with Greg Capullo as the artist and Tony Daniel will be moving onto Dectective Comics for both writer/artist duties, which is essentially a big switcheroo from what is currently going on in the titles. Why? No idea, but there’s probably some bigger picture here I’m just not seeing. My best guess would be that Detective Comics has always been the more grounded in reality book, and perhaps Scott Snyder is ready to get a bit crazy up in here.
Of course, the biggest part of the announcement is the confirmation beyond a shadow of a doubt that Batman Inc. is over. As the post reads,
In the first BATMAN #1 since 1930, New York Times bestselling writer Scott Snyder teams up with superstar artist Greg Capullo in his DC Comics debut! In the series, Bruce Wayne once again becomes the only character taking on the Batman name.
So there you have it. No more Batmen, just Batman. Kind of disappointing, but we’ll see what the reason for this is (hopefully) come the finale of Batman Inc.
