DC Announces “Rebirth” Initiative

After months of rumors, hints, and teasers, DC has announced what exactly “Rebirth” is: it is a line-wide initiative coming in June that relaunches all their books (save two) at #1, and takes those last two and returns them to their original numbering (“Action Comics” and “Detective Comics”). In addition, all their books will be $2.99 per issue, and 17 of the 32 books will be shipping twice monthly. All creative teams will be announced at Wonder Con on Saturday, March 26th.

Geoff Johns gave an interview to Comic Book Resources about the initiative, where he lays out the general theme of the initiative is ‘legacy.’ He speaks about bringing DC back to a place where it ‘feels’ like DC again.

Johns also penned a special one-shot that will kick off the initaitive, titled “Rebirth” #1, with art by Ethan Van Sciver, Gary Frank, Ivan Reis, and Phil Jiminez. That issue comes out on May 25th.

Additionally, each book will get a “Rebirth” special before relaunching. Here is a table that spells out all we know so far:

In addition, DC locked up three creators to exclusive deals today: writer Tom King (“Grayson,” “The Omega Men”) and artists Clay Mann (“Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death,” “Batgirl”), and John Timms (“Harley Quinn”) were all inked to DC exclusive contracts today. Be sure to look out for more exclusive announcements coming soon.

Of note to King’s signing is his writing “The Vision” at Marvel, which he will be departing at #12.
