DC at ECCC: A Roundup

With a few notable exceptions, DC didn’t announce anything all that surprisings or monumental at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, but here is a roundup of what they did announce (all information courtesy of Comic Book Resources and their excellent coverage of all things ECCC):

– There is a new ongoing series based around Trinity, aka Carol, the character introduced at the end of “Flashpoint,” entitled “Trinity of Sin: Pandora.” The series will be written by DC’s newest overworked writer, Ray Fawkes and illustrated by Daniel Sampere. Sampere and Fawkes worked on a few issues of “Batgirl” together, and will launch the series, along with “Batman/Superman” and presumably a few others in June.

– The “100 Bullets”/”Spaceman” team of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso return to the world of “100 Bullets” with “Brother Lono,” a miniseries launching from Vertigo in June. On the one hand, yay more “100 Bullets!” On the other, it seems like Vertigo is totally out of new ideas.

– To coincide with “Trinity of Sin: Pandora,” DC is retitling “The Phantom Stranger” to “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger.” How long until “Trinity of Sin: The Question” is announced?

– James Robinson had a spotlight panel, as well as a place on DC’s New 52 panel, where he dropped a number of tidbits about the future of Earth 2, including teasing the importance of the New Batman of Earth 2, not just for that series, but for the Multiverse in general (my guess? It’s a not-dead Superman – more on that in next week’s “Greeings From Earth 2” column), Captain Steel becoming a major part of “Earth 2,” and the “WTF” cover revealing two characters that would “never in a million years” be expected to show up in his book.

-Robinson also mentioned that by the “end of next year,” Earth 2 and New Earth (or whatever DC is calling the New 52 Earth) will meet. The seeds are already being planted.

-Finally, Robinson also alluded to a potential Batman/The Shade 5 issue miniseries down the road.

-During the “New 52” panel, “stay tuned” was a popular answer for various inquiries, including an “Earth 2” spinoff, the return of Booster Gold and an Atom series. Prediction time: when “The Movement” is cancelled, Gail Simone will write Ryan Choi’s adventures again. Look for it in December or January.

– Kevin Maguire announced that his last issue of “Worlds’ Finest” will be #12.

– Lots of chatter about both Wally West and the Reverse Flash this weekend, leading creedence to my theory that Wally West is the new Reverse Flash. It was confirmed that the Reverse Flash would be “different in both secret identity and power set.” I’m telling you guys, Wally West.

– Finally, it was announced that every September, there will be line-wide recognition of the anniversary of the start of the New 52, much like the Zero Issues did in 2012.
