In addition to the big Milestone news and the surprise Grant Morrison co-writing news, DC still had a fair amount of news break today at New York Comic Con. Let’s dig in!
– “The Terrifics,” the new Jeff Lemire/Ivan Reis/Evan Shaner series, is not just going to feature Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Plastic Man, and Phantom Girl – it will also feature Tom Strong and his family. Yes, you read that right – the Alan Moore/Chris Sprouse characters from the America’s Best Comics imprint (owned by DC) will be featured players in the new series. Wow.
– “Action Comics” #1000 is due out in March, and it will be a big deal – first of all, it’ll be oversized issue written by both Dan Jurgens and Peter Tomasi (writers of both “Action” and “Superman”), as well as backup stories by a bevy of creative talent, including Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. DC will also publish an 80th anniversary hardcover that features, among other things, a ‘lost’ Superman story from the 1940s that is supposedly a Jerry Siegel and the Joe Shuster story.
– At their panel, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio essentially reaffirmed fans’ hopes that Shazam, the Legion of Super-Heroes, the JSA, and Conner Kent, among others, will indeed be back, but they are working hard to roll them out properly. This sort of sounds like bullshit, but those are all characters that Geoff Johns has history with – perhaps, they’ll be part of “Doomsday Clock” or its aftermath? We’ll see.
– From the same panel, it appears that ‘Dark Matter’ may now officially be called ‘the New Age of Heroes.’ Huh?
– Singer Jill Scott has been cast on Black Lightning as Lady Eve, one of the show’s villains.
– And, finally, the first details for Batman Ninja, an anime that re-imagines the Dark Knight as a ninja, were released, and this thing looks bonkers.
