Hat tips to Comics Alliance, Cook Book Resources, Newsarama, IGN, the Source, io9 and Bleeding Cool for quotes and recaps aggregated here.

Day Three:

All Access OGNs

The only real piece of news from this panel was that the Riddler will be the villain at the heart of “Batman Earth One” Volume 2, and that there are no immediate plans to have the Earth One books cross over in any way.

The New Wave Panel

Again, much of the information in this panel had been discussed before, but a few small notes of interest:

Tony Bedard’s Beowulf backup in “Sword of Sorcery” is set around Beowulf being a “post-apocalyptic hero.”

Dan DiDio conclusively revealed that, indeed, Stephanie Brown was being removed from “Smallville Season 11.” His reason was that, in the Smallville world, he wants to introduce the “most iconic” versions of characters first. Of course, as you all know, the most iconic version of Superman was when he fought Doomsday before he knew he could fly, where he formed a Justice League with Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, the Flash, Black Canary and Hawkman while still known as “The Blur,” and was mopey and indecisive. Yup, iconic!

Before Watchmen Panel

In news totally unrelated to “Before Watchmen,” Quentin Tarrantino dropped by to announce a 5-issue miniseries adaptation of his upcoming film “Django Unchained.” The script for the book will be the entire script – not the shooting script, but the script’s first completed draft, before any real editing was done. So, essentially, this is the full director’s cut, without any editing for time/budget/special effects. Tarrantino discussed his love of Western comics as an inspiration as well.

The only other real news out of this panel was that DiDio didn’t quash the idea of an “After Watchmen” outright, saying that “success breeds success,” and so at the end of the “Before Watchmen” process, they would potentially look down the road to something else. He also stated that they are in a “marathon, not a sprint” and that, as of right now, nothing is planned.

Miscellany

The first footage from “The Man of Steel” was released, as well as a teaser poster, which combines the texture of Spider-Man’s costume from “The Amazing Spider-Man” and the lighting of the initial “Thor” image. For a detailed rundown of the footage, click here.

“Arrow” has cast Kelly Hu, best remembered for playing Lady Deathstrike in X2: X-Men United, as China White.

During James Robinson’s spotlight panel last night, he mentioned that he wrote a three-part Vigilante backup for Darwyn Cooke to draw, but Cooke was pulled off the project to work on “Before Watchmen.” Perhaps this will be Cooke’s post- “BW” project?

Brian Salvatore

Brian Salvatore is an editor, podcaster, reviewer, writer at large, and general task master at Multiversity. When not writing, he can be found playing music, hanging out with his kids, or playing music with his kids. He also has a dog named Lola, a rowboat, and once met Jimmy Carter. Feel free to email him about good beer, the New York Mets, or the best way to make Chicken Parmagiana (add a thin slice of prosciutto under the cheese).
