DC Cancels Birds of Prey, Batwing, All-Star Western and More this August [Updated]

As revealed today in the first part of DC’s August solicitations, “Birds of Prey”, “Batwing”, and “All-Star Western” are slated to end with the 34th issue of each series.

Of course, we’re still likely to see these characters bopping around the New 52 in some capacity. Batwing, an identity belonging to an obscure Grant Morrison character (and then given to an even more obscure legacy character) somehow managed to last 34 issues, but the current Batwing, Luke Fox, should still be a presence in the current “Batman Eternal” series. The same could probably be said for the Birds of Prey, who’ve been a pretty stable presence in the DC Universe for more than a decade.

“All-Star Western,” meanwhile, is a surprise title that lasted for more than thirty issues. Honestly, that’s more issues than some critically acclaimed series get and considering this is the solo Western title in DC’s flooded with superhero’s line, that’s an achievement. Still, Jonah Hex’s time-travelling self might be found in “Five Years Later” since he was already buddy buddy with Booster Gold.

In addition to that, the two “Trinity of Sin” titles will be ending, much later than we expected them to be, and Aaron Kuder’s recent new take on “Superboy” will also be coming to a close, which is definitely a shame. That said, Kuder will still be on “Action Comics,” so this is clearly a silver lining(s playbook).

Read on for the final solicitations of each departing series and check Multiversity Comics throughout the day as DC Comics releases more info for the rest of their line. Don’t be too surprised if these three aren’t the only cancelled books come August.
