Every now and then it’s fun to troll Amazon.com to see what’s coming up from DC and Marvel in the next year, at least in regards to trades. If you’re anything like me and pre-order things way in advance to take advantage of Amazon’s “lowest price guarantee” deal, then you probably do this often enough. And, wouldn’t you know it, you can find out about some stuff months before it’s even solicited.
Like what, you ask? Well, how about the fact that after years of not releasing anything but Morrison’s “Animal Man” run in trade, DC is finally going to start releasing what came after, with “Animal Man v4: Born to be Wild” by Pete Milligan and Tom Veitch slated for an April release. I guess the popularity “Animal Man” has had with Lemire is finally paying off for fans. I would throw a pre-order in for this now if I were you.
Not only that, but DC is also planning to start collecting Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos’ “Impulse” series, with the first volume “Runs in the Family” slated for March, as well as Robert Kanigher’s run on “Wonder Woman” in a big hardcover in March. Add to that the books most of you have already probably heard of like the omnibus of the Death and Return of Superman, Absolute “Top 10” that includes all of Moore’s work (although I can’t recommend buying this, given DC’s treatment of Moore), the “Sleeper” omnibus of Brubaker and Philips and the “House of Secrets” omnibus by Seagle and Kristiansen and it’s kind of a big year already for pre-orders. Oh, and the third “New Teen Titans” omnibus is set for April, FYI.
DC isn’t having all of the fun, though. Marvel will be collecting Warren Ellis’ “Doom 2099” in one big book, featuring issues 24-39 and select material from the “World of Doom” one-shot. Not only that, but just in time for the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” series comes a “Rocket Raccoon and Groot: Ultimate Collection”, featuring classic stories of the duo and both DnA team-up stories from “Annihilators.” Those two are both highly recommended, because who doesn’t love a good President Doom and/or Mojoworld story?
Add to that a big “West Coast Avengers” omnibus from Marvel in April and an omnibus of Michelinie, Layton and Romita Jr’s “Iron Man” in February featuring ‘Demon in a Bottle’ (but not ‘Armor Wars’ — that’s volume 2) and we’re already off to some fun releases in the next year.
