DC Comics have announced the “Rorschach” creative team of writer Tom King, artist Jorge Fornés, and colorist Dave Stewart, will reunite for “Danger Street,” a 12-issue Black Label series showcasing “some of DC’s most obscure and offbeat superheroes.” It is inspired by the 1975 comic “DC 1st Issue Special,” which was a try-out comic designed to see how well each featured character would sell, before being possibly given their own series.
The plot will see Starman, Metamorpho, and Warlord trying to apply for membership of the Justice League, and decide “to prove themselves worthy by summoning and defeating Darkseid in battle. Soon they’ll learn that calling upon a New God never ends well, and their world is headed for disaster as a result! The journey to save the day will be a treacherous one filled with princesses, knights, and all kinds of monsters. Each person the heroes encounter plays a crucial role in this sprawling yet gripping narrative that is a little bit silly, a whole lot dark, and completely cool.”
“Book One” of “Danger Street” will be released on Tuesday, May 3, with variant covers spotlighting characters who appeared in “DC 1st Issue Special,” and who will also appear in this series: these consist of a main variant cover by Steve Rude, depicting Atlas, a 1-in-25 variant of the main cast by Lee Weeks, and a 1-in-50 ratio variant by Ben Oliver of Doctor Fate. In further DC news, the publisher revealed Nubia will be crowned Queen of the Amazons following ‘Trial of the Amazons,’ in May’s “Nubia: Coronation Special.” The one-shot, also out May 3, will be penned by Stephanie Williams and Vita Ayala, and feature art by Marguerite Sauvage, Darryl Banks, Jill Thompson, Alitha Martinez, Nikolas Draper-Ivey, Becky Cloonan, and many more. DC’s full May 2022 solicitations will be released later today at 12pm ET.
