DC Gives Some REIGN OF DOOMSDAY News

Last week DC gave us a rather ominous note that Doomsday was returning. This week, among other exciting news, DC has given further info that the Kryptonian deathbringer is coming back – and it’s not going to be a friendly return.

Beginning in the Steel one-shot written by Steve Lyons, and will continue through Outsiders #37 (Dan DiDio), Justice League of America #55 (James Robinson), Superboy #6 (Jeff Lemire), and then …. “????”. That seems ominous. Even more so, the recently released solicit for Outsiders mentions that the Reign Of Doomsday storyline “stomps toward an explosive summer event!” Hmm.

As an additional note, Austin Trunick at DCU’s the Source mentions that the DC Digital Store has “The Death and Return of Superman” available, which might be worth reading.

Superman just had a rough time with New Krypton. It seems that DC is ready to throw him and his family under the bus a bit more. They have also announced that Superman will be replacing it’s lead writer with Chris Roberson, so I can imagine that this too will play into the changes with the book beyond what JMS had planned, since I don’t see Doomsday playing into Superman’s stroll across the country. On top of that, the name “Reign of Doomsday” is very similar to the title of the arc in between the Death and Return of the Man of Steel: Reign of the Supermen. So how does this all tie together?

So why has Doomsday returned? And what does that mean for our four favorite Kryptonians?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
