After initially announcing a new set of graphic novel imprints aimed towards middle grade and young adult readers on Monday, DC has announced the full initial slate of books and writers for DC Zoom and DC Ink. The new publishing initiative is bringing in popular young adult and middle grade prose authors with established fan bases to write new stories for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and “many more.” The already ubiquitous “DC Super Hero Girls” line of graphic novels will also be folded into DC Zoom.
DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson commented about the inspiration behind the new imprints, saying “DC Ink and DC Zoom present an exciting new opportunity to grow our publishing business and ensure beloved stories built around iconic characters like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are endeared as part of the fabric of childhood for years to come.” DC Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee also expressed their excitement about the project, “We’ve already experienced tremendous success with our DC Super Hero Girls graphic novels. The new DC Ink and DC Zoom slate, paired with a stellar author line-up, presents a major business growth opportunity and we couldn’t be more excited – we’re going big.”
The previously announced first wave of books are “Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass” from Mariko Tamaki & Steve Pugh, “Mera” from Daniel Paige, and “DC Super Hero Girls: Search For Atlantis” from Shea Fontana and Yancey Labat. These will all be released in Fall of 2018. After that, DC Ink will see releases from Melissa de la Cruz, Marie Lu, Kami Garcia & Gabriel Picolo (who does the amazing “Casual Teen Titans” series in Instagram), Lauren Myracle, and Laurie Halse Anderson, while DC Zoom will be releasing books from Derek Fridolfs & Dustin Nguyen, another one from Shea Fontana, Meg Cabot, Michael Northrop, Minh Lê, Ridley Pearson, Art Baltazar & Franco, and Gene Yang. Not all artists have been announced at the time of writing.
